Auto login

# vim /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
[SeatDefaults]
autologin-user= # enter default user
autologin-user-timeout=0 # no of seconds before default user is logged in

Make sure it is in Section [SeatDefaults] and not in the section that starts with # Seat Defaults. Restart lightdm after you edit the file.

/etc/init.d/lightdm restart

Modify shell defaults

vim ~/.bashrc

Enable terminal colors in the file. Do this for your normal user and the root user.

Fix Gparted installation

apt-get install gksu
cp /usr/share/applications/gparted.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/

Modify the command which starts gparted from the desktop environment:

gparted-pkexec --> gksudo gparted

Default desktop

To reinstall the default desktop background image, navigate to

/usr/share/images/desktop-base

and choose the joy-wallpaper.svg with the resolution of your screen
